Representatives from the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring (NAMEM) and the Research Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment (IRIMHE) of Mongolia participated in the Asia-Oceania Meteorological Satellite Users Conference (AOMSUC-15), held in Qingdao, China.

At the opening session, Mr. E. Battulga, Director-General of NAMEM, delivered a statement on behalf of the countries utilizing meteorological satellite data, highlighting the importance of regional cooperation in satellite applications in the meteorological field. On the second day of the conference, Ms. S. Javzmaa, meteorologist at NAMEM, presented on the topic “Latest Progress in Satellite Applications and Services”, while Ms. Kh. Bolormaa, researcher at IRIMHE, delivered a poster presentation entitled “Utilization and Future Perspectives of Meteorological Satellites in Mongolia.”

The 15th conference covered a wide range of topics including weather, climate, environmental monitoring, agricultural production, satellite meteorology, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. It provided a platform for international organizations and regional experts to exchange experiences and discuss new approaches, methodologies, and applications.

In their presentations, the Mongolian representatives introduced methodologies for providing climate services based on satellite data, systems for disseminating information to users, and processes for developing satellite-based products, along with the challenges encountered. They shared Mongolia’s experience in enhancing the accessibility and user-oriented dissemination of meteorological information. The presentations also emphasized the use of satellite data in agriculture, environmental monitoring, and dzud (severe winter disaster) risk assessment, highlighting both the strengths and limitations of these products, and provided an overview of ongoing research in Mongolia in this field.

During the conference, researchers from various countries presented on topics such as upgrades to the Fengyun satellite data receiving systems, industrial applications, and the use of satellite data in environmental monitoring. They demonstrated, with examples and numerical data, how satellite observations can be effectively applied for real-time monitoring, forecasting, and tracking environmental changes. Moreover, advanced practices in integrating artificial intelligence into satellite data-based modeling were shared, which drew considerable attention from participants.

The conference not only served as a technical and professional exchange platform but also aimed to strengthen regional cooperation, expand the use of satellite data and technologies, and enhance information-sharing mechanisms among member countries.

The participation of the Mongolian delegation was a significant step in showcasing Mongolia’s progress in meteorological and climate services at the international level and opened up new opportunities for future cooperation. As recognition of this contribution, Ms. S. Javzmaa’s presentation was selected as one of the outstanding oral presentations of the conference, earning an award from the organizers.

As an outcome of the conference, Mongolia is expected to further accelerate the development of satellite-based meteorological and climate services, adopt innovative technologies, and improve user-oriented information delivery systems through enhanced collaboration with international organizations.
