Representatives of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) attending the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17) were received by Mr. E. Battulga, Director of the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring (NAMEM), and officials of the Agency.

During the meeting, the Mongolian side expressed its interest in jointly implementing projects and receiving support in the following areas:

a) Gradually modernizing meteorological stations and observation posts by introducing advanced automated observation systems to ensure the accuracy and continuity of observational data;

b) Expanding radar coverage to strengthen nowcasting capabilities for hazardous weather phenomena and precipitation over very short time scales;

c) Improving and modernizing methodologies for weather modification activities, including technologies, equipment, and approaches for evaluating their effectiveness, in line with international standards;

d) Expanding upper-air (aerological) observations to increase the availability of data required to improve the accuracy of numerical weather prediction and atmospheric modeling; and

e) Jointly implementing projects to develop agrometeorological information and advisory services for herders and farmers and seeking technical and financial support for such initiatives.
