At its meeting on June 24, 2026, the Government of Mongolia approved a resolution exempting 15 types of equipment intended for renewable energy resource and source research and analysis, as well as hydrometeorological observations, from customs duties and value-added tax (VAT).

The resolution creates important conditions for upgrading modern, high-cost equipment in line with international standards and strengthening the capacity of the meteorological observation network. The equipment includes automatic weather and hydrological stations, anemometers, wind vanes, rain gauges, thermometers, barometers, relative humidity sensors, water-level gauges, flow meters, water temperature sensors, spectrometers, photometers, and other specialized equipment.

The decision is significant not only for strengthening the capacity of the hydrometeorological sector, but also for enhancing Mongolia’s national capacity for greenhouse gas inventories, measurement, and reporting; supporting renewable energy projects; improving the early detection of risks associated with hazardous phenomena such as drought, dzud, and floods; and enabling the public to receive more timely and accurate early warning information.
