Representatives of the Embassy of the French Republic in Mongolia, together with Mr. Christophe Perard, Project Director and Specialist of the international cooperation organization of Météo-France, the French national meteorological service, met with Mr. E. Battulga, Director of the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring (NAMEM). During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the “Combating Desertification in Mongolia” project, which is planned to be implemented in 2026–2028 within the framework of cooperation between the Governments of Mongolia and France, and held preliminary discussions on the project.

During the meeting, NAMEM Director E. Battulga emphasized that, in the current context of intensifying climate change impacts in Mongolia, including increasing drought, desertification, water scarcity, and the frequency of hazardous and extreme weather events, strengthening weather forecasting and early warning systems has become one of the country’s national priorities.

The parties exchanged views on the key activities to be implemented during 2026–2028, areas of cooperation, implementation phases, technical support, and human resource capacity development under the project. They agreed to accelerate preparations for the project in the near future.

The successful implementation of the project is expected to strengthen the forecasting capacity of Mongolia’s meteorological and environmental monitoring sector, improve the quality and accuracy of weather forecasts, and further enhance the capacity to provide timely, reliable, and rapid early warning information to the public and relevant authorities in the event of hazardous natural phenomena.
