Chen Zhenlin, Administrator of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), and Battulga Erkhembayar, Director-General of the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring of Mongolia (NAMEM), held a bilateral meeting to discuss ongoing and future areas of collaboration. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the outcomes of past cooperation between the meteorological agencies of China and Mongolia and exchanged views on strengthening joint efforts in addressing shared environmental challenges. In particular, they explored potential avenues for enhanced collaboration in monitoring and mitigating the impacts of sand and dust storms, as well as in the field of weather modification activities.

Since the establishment of official cooperation in 1989, more than 400 Mongolian experts have received advanced training at the regional training centers of the China Meteorological Administration. As part of this longstanding partnership, aerological stations were also constructed in Umnugovi and Gobi-Altai provinces with grant assistance from China. In the meeting, gratitude was expressed for China’s continued support, particularly for the provision of an artificial intelligence-based server and software in 2025, which will play a crucial role in the early detection and forecasting of various natural disasters.
